February Speaker Series Recap: Growing Hemp in Wyoming

The Wyoming Food Coalition hosted a Speaker Series and discussion on growing hemp in Wyoming, and the nutritional benefits and possibilities of hemp for livestock.

Jude Buchanan-Sandoval, a member of the Wyoming Food Coalition Policy Working Group shared her passion and experience with hemp, and our two speakers, Wes Brown and Morgan Tweet spoke to the challenges, regulations and possibilities for growing hemp in Wyoming.

Wes Brown, the Fuel Quality, Pesticide Licensing and RST Program Coordinator for Wyoming Department of Agriculture presented about Federal vs. State regulation, inspections and good practices, the licensing process in Wyoming, as well as the current statistics for license holders, the number of acres growing hemp and the THC content and allowable limit. Our other speaker, Morgan Tweet, Founding partner & Chief Operating Officer for IND HEMP and member of the Hemp Seed Association shared her experiences working with IND HEMP, a Montana based hemp food and fiber company located in Fort Benton, and her involvement with the first ever hemp feed ingredient submittal, Hemp Seed Meal for Laying Hens, which is pending review from FDA-CVM and approval from AAFCO. She believes in the importance of American grown and processed hemp and integrating these products into the animal feed industry.
